The riddle of IPv6

Getting the government moving on anything can be tough, especially when that anything is IT related. For years, systems integrators and partners have been trying to get the government moving on updating their IT system, but will it ever happen?

Last summer the Office of Management and Budget set a June 2008 deadline for federal agencies to convert their network backbones to IPv6. Since most agencies wouldn’t be in any hurry to meet the deadline, the office set up milestone. To no one’s surprise, the agencies still aren’t moving quickly.

The problem really comes from the Office of Management and Budget’s expectations. Although they mandated the change, they provided no extra funds to cover it. So, the agencies are in no hurry to spend their own limited funds to change over.

No one can be sure what will happen, but there is certainly a need for the change and an opening for computer consultants to help agencies get moving on the project. Learn more in the full article (link above).
