IT Consultant: Personality Trait Evaluation

Certain personality traits can drastically affect your success as an IT consultant. During the course of your career you will have to make many decisions and deal with many different types of people and situations. The following are three traits that will help make you a great consultant during those times.

Can You Exhibit Candor?

You must be able to tell people the truth even when they don't want to hear it. Your honesty with your employees, customers, and yourself will determine your success in the IT consulting business. You want to be confident during negotiations and sales pitches, and being candid with the customer will send the right message.

Can You Work With Uncertainty?

Everything in your business won't be certain. There will always be some measure of uncertainty as to what will happen tomorrow and whether you'll find enough clients for the next month. You must be able to deal with that uncertainty and continue working.

Are You Decisive?

As both a boss and a consultant, you will have to make quick decisions sometimes. You will have to decide what is best for your clients and what is best for your company. Sometimes you will have to fire clients who are costing you too much time and money. You must be able to make these decisions and stick to them.
